IIM Admission process

Though CAT is conducted jointly by all six IIMs, each IIM admits students independently and has its own admission process, independent of other IIMs. CAT is one of several inputs used by IIMs to judge the suitability of the candidate — first for group discussion and/ or interview and then final selection. CAT score is primarily the basis of short-listing candidates for second round of admission process which is based on GDs and personal interviews. It may also be used for final ranking. The IIM to which the candidate has applied evaluates her in each of a set of different areas of achievement, including CAT performance. The basis of ranking and finally selecting successful candidates is based on attributes which may include performance of CAT, GD/PI, academic, co-curricular/ extracurricular achievements and work experience. The weightage given to each may vary across IIMs. Reservation: Scheduled Caste — 15%; Scheduled Tribe — 7.5%; Persons with Disability (PWD) — 3%
