Biotechnology Degree

Biotech is an extremely absorbing field. It’s more than 8,000 years old. When we make curd, wine, cheese, use fermentation processes, or pasteurisation when we boil milk, we actually deal with biotech.
Biotech is a combination of many science subjects or unification of these for the benefit of mankind. The subjects include physics, chemistry, electronics, computers, biology, botany etc. It is an applied science, a combination of all the biological sciences such as genetics, botany, molecular biology, cell biology, environmental science, computer science, chemistry, bioinformatics, biostatistics, biophysics and the like.
There is scope for biotech in food technology, food industry, marine industry, textile industry, paint industry, bioremediation, plant tissue culture, archaeology, geology. As also in the bulk drugs and pharmaceutical industry; insulin, anti-cancer drugs, anti-microbial natural products; cosmetics and soaps.
There are jobs in R&D, quality control, manufacture and production, regulatory affairs, information systems, and administration.
Higher level jobs are found in the fields of gene therapy, immunotechnology, plant and animal tissue culture, stem cell techniques, enzyme engineering, peptide synthesis, bio informatics, bio sensors, bioremediation, DNA vaccines and neutraceuticals.
All this makes biotech an exciting career.
