He said that the course will be useful for working executives in the human resource and the labour sector. In addition, MSW, BBM, B.Com and LL.B. graduates can opt for it as it will enhance their knowledge base.

Mr. Ravindra said that the course will have two semesters of eight papers which includes preparation of a project report or dissertation.

Labour law practitioners of Mangalore Bar Association, retired bureaucrats of the government and other academicians and experts from industry will teach the students.

Specialisation

He said that traditionally a lawyer was not expected to specialise in any area as the nature of litigation in older days was not as diverse as these days. But due to the complexities of litigations there is now a compulsion to have specialisation in chosen fields. Now, there are advocates and law firms specialised in intellectual property rights, family laws, corporate laws and writ petitions.

Law colleges and universities are offering micro-specialist courses such as postgraduate diploma in cyber laws, intellectual property rights and human rights.
