Institute of Fisheries Nautical and Engineering Training

The general Institute of Fisheries Nautical and Engineering Training (CIFNET) Kochi (a unit of CIFNET was established in Chennai in 1968 and another unit at Visakhapatnam in 1981) conducts two Regular courses for manning the larger fishing vessels viz. Mate Fishing Vessel Course (18 Months) and Engine Driver Fishing Vessel Course (18 month)

For this residential programme, students those who have passed 10th standard are eligible to apply and mode of selection will be by All India Entrance Examination. Monthly stipend of Rs700/- will be paid to the candidates admitted through entrance examination
Few seats are available for sponsored candidates through State Govt./ UT, public Sector and Private Fishing Industry.
   CIFNET offers career training to candidates in Vessel Navigator and Marine Fitter Trades which have been newly introduced by Director General of Education and Training Ministry of labour under Craftman Training scheme of NCVT. The training courses of 24 months duration include basic practical training on board fishing Vessels out at sea. S.S.L.C passed students with minimum of 50% marks in Mathematics and Science are eligible to apply
CIFNET also offers Bachelor of Fisheries Science (Nautical Science). This is a four years programme with integrated practical and on board training on ocean going fishing vessel. Plus Two students with minimum 50 percent of marks in Mathematics and Science. Students will be selected through an Entrance Test and interview. Academic merit in plus Two Examination will be also considered. Cochin University of Science and Technology will award Degree for the students of B.FSC. (Nautical Science).
