Medicine in India

The MBBS Course
In India an MBBS degree is the basic requirement to become a doctor, along with registration with the medical Council of India. 
The MBBS degree ids a pre-requisite to post-graduatation studies, which will help will help to specialize in a particular branch of medicine

Duration
The MBBS course is of four and a half years followed by one year of compulsory roating residential internship . The degree is awarded only after completion of this intership . An intern is posted in all the clinical departments of the hospital on a rotation basis, to teach clinical and practical knowledge about all the disciplines of medicine. The MD or MS courses is three years in duration post completion of the MBBS

Eligibility

A pass in class 12 examination with minimum 50% marks to appear for the entrance tests. One should have a science background(Physics Chemistry and Biology)

The entrance test by the CBSE, held at the national level for entry into all colleges run by the central and state government and local bodies. At state level, one has to get through the common Entrance Examination (CEE) of states conducted by the concerned state body. Besides these there are also entrance tests like AIIMS,AIPGE, AIPGE, AFMC

Degree Courses
BDS (Bachelor of Dental Science)
Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) is a four year course with one year compulsory rotary internship.
BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery)
This programme is five years duration. The Ayurvedic education in India is presently being monitored by the Central Council of India Medicine (CCIM), which is a statutory Central Government body. 

    BUMS (Bachelor of Unani Medicine & Surgery)
This programme is a under graduate degree courses in Unani Medicine &Surgery. The Unani education in India is being monitored by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM), which is a statutory Central Government body.

B PT (Bachelor of Physiotherapy)
This programme is a four year degree course offered different medical colleges of the country. During the courses one learns the scientific procedures used in the treatment of a patient with disability, disease or injury to achieve and maintain functional rehabilitation. This programme also fouses on prevention of malfunction or deformity.

BOT (Bachelor of Occupational Therapy)
This programme is graduate degree course in occupational therapy which is offered by different medical institutes of the country. The programme prepares professional therapists who help people with physical or mental disabilities in achieving maximum functioning and independence at home and at the workplace.

BMLT (Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Technology)
The B.Sc programme in medical Laboratory technology is offered by different medical colleges and institutions across the country. The degree awarded is B.Sc.-M.L.T.The medical technologists are an integral part of the medical profession. These professionals get involved in practical and technical work to aid correct diagnosis and in the functioning of Biochemical Laboratories.
