Central Govt Scholarship for Degree and PG students 


Ministry of Science and Technology, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, has invited applications for the Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE) a component of  Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) of the Department.

INSPIRE is a Programme for attraction of talent to Science. Its basic objective is to communicate to young students, the excitements of creative pursuit of science, attract talent to the study of science at an early age and thus build the required critical human resource pool for strengthening and expanding the Science  Technology system and R D base.

Who can Apply for this Scholarships

A total of 10,000 scholarships are available annually under SHE. The scholarships are offered to those who have passed Class XII in 2017 from recognized Indian, State/Central Boards and are studying 3-years B.Sc., B.Sc (Hons), 4-years B.S and 5-years integrated M.Sc./M.S programs courses in Natural/ Basic sciences at in any UGC recognized College/ University/ Institutions in India. Courses in Engineering, Medicine, Technology and other Professional/Technical/Applied Science courses are not coming under the purview of this scheme.

Selected scholars will receive scholarship valued at Rs. 80,000/- annually. The cash value payable to the SHE scholarship holder is Rs. 60,000/- per annum.  The balance amount of Rs.20,000/- will be for a summer time attachment fee to be paid for undertaking summer time research project.

Selected candidates will be supported for a maximum period of five years starting from 1st year course in B.Sc., B.Sc. (Hons), BS and integrated course leading to M.S. or M.Sc. or till completion of the course, whichever is earlier. Continuation of the scholarship for selected candidates is based on performance in the examinations conducted and certified by the institution imparting education.

Eligibility:
Applicant must have passed Class XII in 2017 and should have been enrolled in and pursuing, a valid Degree level course (B.Sc./BS/Integrated MSc/Integrated MS course) in Natural / Basic Sciences at any UGC recognized College or University or National Institute in India. The subjects under the purview of the INSPIRE Scholarship include Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Statistics, Geology, Astrophysics, Astronomy, Electronics, Botany, Zoology, Bio-chemistry, Anthropology, Microbiology, Geophysics, Geochemistry, Atmospheric Sciences Oceanic Sciences.

Applicant should have come within top 1% cut-off threshold in his/her Board (State or Central) Examination in 2017 at Class XII level or should have come within stipulated cut off ranks in any of the specified Competitive Examinations or should have admissions in some specified institutes based on these cut-off ranks or based on other National level examinations or should be a recipient of one of the scholarships and medals notified.

The cut-off of 2017 for different Boards will be finalized in due course. The top 1% Cut-off of 2016 is as follows and should be seen only for guidance purpose.

State-Boards and percentage cut-off Marks for 2016 are as follows: Andhra Pradesh-97.9, Assam-81.0, Bihar-74.0, Chhattisgarh-84.8, Goa-88.0, Gujarat-79.8, Haryana-88.0, Himachal Pradesh-88.6, Jammu Kashmir-90.4, Jharkhand-73.8, Karnataka-92.6, Kerala-96.5, Madhya Pradesh-88.8, Maharashtra-81.5, Manipur-83.0, Meghalaya-71.8, Mizoram-82.0, Nagaland-76.0, Odisha-84.5, Punjab-90.4, Rajasthan-85.4, Tamil Nadu-Board Data not provided by the Board, Tripura-82.6, Uttar Pradesh-88.8, Uttarakhand-75.8, West Bengal-87.6, CBSE-95.0, ICSE-96.0, Viswa-Bharathi-94.0, Telangana-98.2.

For being eligible based on cut-off ranks in National level examinations, applicant should have come in the top 10,000 ranks as per Common Merit List (CML) in one of JEE (Main), JEE (Advanced) and NEET for Medical.

All Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojna (KVPY) Fellows, National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) Scholars, International Olympiad Medalists and Jagadis Bose National Science Talent Search (JBNSTS) Scholars are eligible to apply.

Those who have secured admission to 4 years BS or 5 years Integrated M.Sc. programs in Basic Natural Sciences at any Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) securing rank within top 10,000 in JEE (Advanced), at any of the Indian Institute of Science Education  Research (IISERs), National Institute of Science Education  Research (NISER), Department of Atomic Energy - Centre for Basic Science (DAE - CBS), those admitted for  in a University for Under-graduate or Integrated M. Sc. Program in Natural Sciences and Basic Sciences following National Level Competitive Examinations such as JEE (Main), JEE (Advanced), NEET etc are also eligible to apply.
Receipt of Eligibility Note or Eligibility Certificate on INSPIRE Scholarship from respective Board is not mandatory as an eligibility criterion to apply and also do not guarantee the Scholarship.

Selection: 

The selection will be subject to evaluation of each application based on eligibility criteria including finalization of actual top 1% cut-off of Class 12 examination for 2017 for each Board. In case the number of applications exceeds 10,000; the selection will be on the basis of Board inclusive model within the available number of Scholarships in that year.

Before filling application form, applicant should scan and store the following documents as separate files, to be uploaded as required during the On-line Application’ process. The Name of the document, type and maximum size permitted are as follows.

The applicant should provide his/her own valid and functional email address. Applicants may take a print out of the submitted online application for his/her records. Applicants are not required to send by post, the printout of the application or any other documents which are submitted online.
