Higher study in Wildlife Science Studies 

Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun, an autonomous Institution of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Government of India, has invited applications for admission to following course
 2-year (four semesters) M.Sc. Course in Wildlife Science, 2017-19, 

This course is commencing on 29th June, 2017.

The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is a premier national institute for training and research in the field of wildlife conservation and management. M.Sc. Course in Wildlife Science aims to impart theoretical knowledge on concepts, principles, approaches, analytical skills and field techniques in Wildlife Science. Students are selected for the residential course every alternate year. The course is affiliated with the Saurashtra University, Rajkot (Gujarat).

The course is open to both Indian and foreign nationals. Twenty students will be admitted to this course, which includes 15 Indian and 5 foreign nationals. The break-up of seats (15) for Indian nationals will be as follows: General-8; SC-2; ST-1; OBC-4. In case of 5 foreign candidates are not selected, these seats will be offered to Indian candidates as per the reservation policy of Government of India.

Eligibility: Applicant should hold a Bachelor’s degree in one of Science, Medical Science, Engineering, Veterinary Science, Agriculture, Forestry, Pharmacy, Social Science or Computer Science or degrees recognized as equivalent thereof but should have studied in Science stream at Higher Secondary Education Board or other equivalent board with Biology as one of the subjects. Applicant should have gone through a minimum of 15 years of formal education (either 10+2+3 or 11+2+2) and should have completed the graduation degree in any of the above disciplines with a pass certificate.

Those who have appeared or will be appearing at the qualifying (final) bachelors degree examination and whose result is still awaited or those whose examinations have been delayed may also apply, subject to production of their Graduation Pass Certificate prior to the registration in the course at Saurashtra University, tentatively by 1st August 2017.

Applicants with Bachelors Degree from Universities outside India should obtain certificates of equivalence from the Secretary General, Association of Indian Universities, AIU House 16, Comrade Indrajit Gupta Marg, New Delhi-110002 (Website: http://bit.ly/2iFSsBb).

The Institute will facilitate the degree equivalence from the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi and eligibility certificate for the Saurashtra University. However final decision by them in the matter of equivalence/eligibility will be binding on the applicant.

Foreign nationals, who do not have English as their native language, should provide evidence of proficiency in English (e.g. TOEFL Score) for admission to the course. The TOEFL or IELTS score reports should not be more than two years since taking the Test to submission of the application. A minimum TOEFL Score of 213 (computer based), 550 (paper based), or 79 (internet based), or minimum of 6.0 IELTS score is required.

The age limit is 25 years as on July 01, 2017 with relaxation of 5 years for reserved category candidates (SC/ST/OBC). For the in-service candidates working in Forest and Wildlife Departments, the age limit is 35 years as on July 01, 2017.

Selection Process:
Indian Candidates: Eligible candidates will be required to appear for an online National Eligibility Test (NET) on 7th May 2017, to be held at Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Mumbai, Delhi, Lucknow, Dehra Dun, Kolkata, Guwahati and Jammu. NET will be for 2 hours duration for 100 marks question paper. The test will have 30 marks multiple-choice questions on General Awareness including Current Affairs, Quantitative Skills, English Language and Computer knowledge; 40 marks multiple-choice questions on environment, forest, wildlife and conservation issues and 30 marks for essay question on an environmental, forest, wildlife or conservation issue(s) with word limit fixed as 200. Shortlisted candidates based on NET screening will be called to take a Personality Aptitude Test (PAT) at Dehra Dun between 29 and 30 May 2017. Final selection to the course will be made on the basis of combined merit of 50% marks obtained in the NET and 50% of PAT. Qualified candidates belonging to General Category will be interviewed on 29th May, 2017, while qualified reserved category (SC/ST/OBC) candidates will be interviewed on 30th May, 2017.

The selected Indian nationals will have to confirm their joining in the course (acceptance of selection offer), positively by 6th June, 2017 by email, failing which, the wait-listed candidates in appropriate lists will be offered the seat.

Foreign Candidates: All eligible foreign candidates will be interviewed through Skype or video conferencing following which their final selection will be made. For foreign nationals, the tentative interview dates through web conferencing are 28 April and 29 April, 2017. The foreign candidates will inform the preference of the interview date through web conferencing and provide complete contact details. The final merit list will be based on 50% marks in the Graduation degree and 50% marks obtained in interview (Maximum marks - 100) based on web conferencing.

All Indian National in-service applicants, are required to register online and route their applications, after successful online registration, application submission and payment of fees, through proper channel to the Course Director, XVI M.Sc. Wildlife Science Course, Wildlife Institute of India, Chandrabani, Dehradun,Uttarakhand-248001, by Registered Post positively by 7th May, 2017. However, they may send an advance copy for preliminary consideration. Applicants will be required to fill in their personal, educational and professional experience profiles online besides uploading a recent passport size photograph, scanned copies of school certificate/ valid passport as age proof, mark-sheet of Graduation degree (Previous/Final year) and caste certificate (applicable for candidates seeking reservation quota)

Applicants have to make the payment of application processing fee of Rs. 1000/- through the prescribed Payment Gateway

The entrusted online agency will issue Admit Card to eligible candidates which can be downloaded from web-link provided. The admit card will have details of Examination Centre, Date and Time of online NET wherein applicants will appear in the NET on their own cost. Applicants will make their own arrangement for travel and accommodation for appearing in the 2 hour online NET.

The Institute will upload the result of NET and shortlisted candidates for PAT (those are being called for interview at WII, Dehradun), latest by 15th May 2017.

Foreign Candidates: (i) Foreign candidates will be required to fill in their personal, educational profiles online besides uploading a recent passport size photograph, scanned copies of passport with a validity period till 30 June 2019, school leaving certificate, reference letters from 2 persons, proof of International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score (if applicable).

All eligible foreign candidates are required to pay an application processing fee of US$ 200 or equivalent. However, SAARC nationals are required to pay US$ 100 or equivalent. The amount can be transferred electronically to WII account. The e-banking details are: Union Bank of India; Beneficiary - Director, Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun; Account Number - 518502010000001; IFSC Code - UBIN0551856; Swift Code - UBININBBDER; Purpose - M.Sc. Wildlife Science Application Fee. Details of e-banking/fee transfer need to be mentioned in application.

The result of selected foreign nationals will be hosted on WII’s website before 28 April, 2017 and selected students will also be informed by email. Selected students have to confirm sponsoring/funding support latest by 5th May, 2017 so as to process their applications for seeking the Government of India’s approval from security and political angles. This would ultimately facilitate in obtaining ‘Study Visa’. In the event of failure/no confirmation of sponsorship by 5th May, 2017, the Institute would offer the seat to the waitlisted foreign applicant. In case of ‘in-service’ foreign nationals, applicants need to route application through proper channel after online registration so as to reach WII by 5th May 2017 along with details of sponsorship.

SC/ST candidates called for the PAT (Personality and Aptitude test) will be paid to and fro train ticket fare (III tier Sleeper) by shortest route from their place of residence to Dehra Dun. Candidates belonging to the SC, ST and OBC category should submit a caste certificate from the competent authority at the time of PAT failing which they will not be allowed to appear the interview. All selected students (Indian as well as foreign nationals) should arrive at Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India on 29th June, 2017 and report at the Institute during Office hours (0900-1730 hrs).

The Course Fee for the entire course is:
Indian Nationals-Rs.5,32,800; SAARC Nationals - US $ 13,200;
Other Nationals - US $ 14,400.
The Institute provides full scholarship to eight Indian students based on their selection merit. The scholarship covers academic fee, hostel accommodation fee and a monthly stipend. The breakup of the scholarships for Indian nationals will be: General-4; SC-1; ST-1 and OBC-2. Other candidates (Indian and Foreign) selected for the course will be treated as self-sponsored. The self-sponsored students would be required to pay the course fee in four equal installments prior to commencement of each semester.
