Bangalore University decided to offer engineering degree (BE and BTech) courses through distance learning program. Earlier Karnataka state open university offered BE and BTech Distance education program, but Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU)is objected this, saying it will affect the quality of engineering education in the state. The Bangalore University academic council cleared the first hurdle. This will help rural students and working professionals. VTU governs all engineering colleges in the state. Bangalore University plans to offer BE/BTech Distance education programmes in civil and mechanical engineering and will tie up with 50 colleges to deliver the classes. Next academic year onwards BU will begin the BE/Tech distance learning program.
