IGNOU virtual platform

IGNOU will soon develop a virtual platform for its students, where they can interact with teachers through web conference, said Kochi regional director Dr M Rajesh.

He was addressing a press meet here on Tuesday. "The virtual platform is the first of its kind in IGNOU and will help students who are not able to attend our contact classes. There will also be a recording option for the programme, which is otherwise a "live" one. We hope to start this venture on a pilot basis in a few months' time," he said.

Speaking about the certificate course in Food and Nutrition started by IGNOU in Viyyur jail, he said that the course has nearly 60 candidates and was a path-breaking initiative. "This will also help in the reformation of the jailbirds and once they are out, they can pursue a business on their own," he added.

IGNOU's regional centre in Kochi is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.  A function was held to mark the occasion at the centre on Tuesday evening. Dr Thomas Nechupadam, Director of Kerala Chamber of Commerce, delivered the key note address. "The Kerala Chamber of Commerce is interested in tying up with IGNOU for promoting skill development programmes. IGNOU is running many skill development programmes, which are very helpful when it comes to employability. These courses would aid many who are seeking job abroad. We are looking forward to collaborate with IGNOU to further encourage such programmes," he said.
