Student Visa

Science, engineering and technology students intending to pursue postgraduate degrees in the U.K. now face extra security checks by the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office, according to the new visa rules that came into force on November 1, 2007. The application, which should be made electronically via the foreign office website www.fco.gov.uk/ATAS , asks students to detail what their research area of interest is and why they wish to study it.

Scope for higher study in Yoga

The scope for students of yoga is widening. They could work as yoga or fitness instructors or consultants in hospitals. “There is scope for yoga therapists in hospitals. Yoga can be effectively used to treat many diseases caused due to lifestyle changes. Yoga therapists, who also know the functioning of human body and are aware of the causes and symptoms of diseases, are better poised than ordinary yoga students, for performing the job of instructors in hospitals,” observes Mr. Balagopalan. IT companies and star hotels now offer jobs for yoga instructors. Tourism sector is another area where yoga instructors are much in demand. Just consider these instances for gauging the popularity and scope of yoga: a group of U.S. war veterans took to yoga classes to help them control their post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD) symptoms. Or, the Indian Defence Ministry telling the Delhi High Court that it would include yoga and other training as part of stress management for armed personnel to prevent them from committing suicide due to work-related stress. Or, big companies organising yoga classes for its e mployees to cool off and ‘de-stress’ themselves. In India there are only a few universities and colleges which offer yoga and yoga therapy courses.
