a. Eligibility for Admission
i) Candidates seeking admission to the first year of the three year Master of Computer Applications (MCA) programme:
a)Three year Bachelor’s Degree after completion of Plus 2 (or)
b)Three year Bachelor’s Degree after completion of three year Diploma of any recognised University.
ii) Candidates seeking admission to I year of MCA Programme and who have not studied Mathematics at +2 or at Diploma level should undergo a bridge programme for a week.
b. Duration of the Programme
The minimum duration of the programme for the Degree of Master of Computer Applications is 6 semesters. The candidate shall complete the programme within 8 years from the year of admission to the programme.
Personal Contact Programme (PCP)
Personal Contact Programmes will be conducted for a total duration of 29 days in each semester arranged in different sessions except in VI semester. All the Personal Contact Programmes are compulsory. The candidate will be eligible to appear for the examination only if he/she has attended at least 80% in the theory subjects and practical classes during the Personal Contact Programmes. Attendance certificate will be issued to the students at the end of each programme. If students take with them the recommended textbooks and the printed lessons received from the Directorate, they will find the PCP immensely useful

Post Graduate in Rural Management from IRMA

Rural Management department at IRMA (Institute of Rural Management), Anand, has invited applications for admission to the following courses, for which an entrance test will be conducted on November 8.

Postgraduate programme in rural management: A two-year residential course equivalent to Masters.

Eligibility: graduate in any discipline with 50 per cent marks.

The total course fee including the tuition fee is about Rs.3 lakh. Scholarships are available for deserving students. Campus placements will be arranged after successful completion of the programme.

Fellow programme in rural management: It is a doctoral residential programme of minimum three-year duration.

Eligibility: Postgraduation in any discipline or a four-year professional degree with one-year work experience or a five-year professional degree. Every FPRM participant receives a gross fellowship of Rs.10,000 per month and a contingency grant of Rs.20,000 per year for four years. Placement assistance will also be provided. •Certificate programme in dairy management

Technical writing, a form of technical communication, is a style of formal writing and is used in fields as diverse as computer hardware and software, aerospace industry, robotics, finance, consumer electronics and biotechnology. Technological Writers explain complex ideas to the technical and non­technical audiences. Technical Writers often write for readers who know less than they do about their subject, and they try to inform the readers about it rather than show how much they know. In some organizations Technical Writers may be called Information Developers, Documentation Specialists, Documentation Engineers or Technical Content Developers.
Technical Writers are more successful when they try to impress their readers with how clearly and simply they can present information the readers need. A good Technical Writer needs strong language skills and must understand the highly evolved conventions of modern technical communications.

Prospects of Technical Writers:

Thousands of business and trade magazines and papers are published by industries and publishing firms to keep readers informed about special fields. Industrial publications are often written and edited by Technical Writers. Newspapers, news magazines and wire services employ Technical Writers. Professional journals covering automobile industries, engineering, computers, medicine, law, chemistry, biotechnology, etc. use Technical Writers to report professional trends and to work as editors.
A Technical Writer has no true career levels, but can move up into management of other writers. He could grow into a Senior Technical Writer position, handling complex projects or a small team of writers and editors. His next rise could be a Documentation Manager handling multiple projects and teams.

Technical Writers in high-tech firms must be able to write as quickly as possible, and must be able to switch from one writing task to another. Requirements for documents sometimes arise suddenly, and often there is little time between the first notice of a requirement and the deadline for the document.

Technical Writers may also have additional planning duties, including contributing to the documents’ design, writing or reviewing the document outline for content coverage, logical organization, and providing guidelines for the writers and editors. Writing and editing guidelines help ensure consistency in formats, acronyms and abbreviations, and technical details, to cut editing time.

In high-tech firms Technical Writers have two type of audiences i.e. a Primary and a Secondary.A document written for readers outside the firm will be reviewed by the writer’s supervisor and other company staff before it is revised, put into production, and released to the outside audience. These reviewers are a Secondary audience. The outside readers (the related customers) are the Primary audience.
When Technical Writers have two audiences, they must satisfy their Secondary audience with the document while they try to make it communicate effectively with the Primary audience. Usually, the Secondary audience is familiar with the Primary and can provide effective review.

Technical Writers often recommend usage guidelines or strict observance of the company style manual to his Senior who decides which standard to follow in the document. The longer a document the more important it is for the Technical Writer to coordinate activities with publication staff, letting them know how much work is coming, when it will be submitted, and when it is needed. Accordingly he has to plan and schedule his work.

Technical Writers are expected to be strong in all steps of the writing process. They are expected to emphasis the product and not the processes. The final document (write-up) is much more important in high-tech firms then other professional settings.

Personal Skills of a Technical Writer:

A Technical Writer must possess very good skills in writing good English. He must have good research and communication skill to gather information about the product using many media like- Internet, books, and sometimes to interview the experts in the field, design skills and multimedia presentation.

A Technical Writer should be familiar with the specified subject area apart from technically skilled or trained.

Challenges before the Technical Writers:

In companies that do not produce written or on-line documents for sale, Technical Writers often have to justify their positions by demonstrating that their work has increased the marketability of the firm’s goods or services. Technical Writers are the image builders of the company and are an essential aid to augment its profits. They must keep themselves up-dated with new technical developments in their fields. He must up-date his skills daily by collaborating with educated, intelligent people who value their services. As technology develops, the material technical writers work with changes constantly. The variety makes their work more interesting and challenging and the new materials educate them.

Eligibility for Technical Writers:

The Executive Fellow Program is a part-time, non-residential, doctoral program that has been designed to cater to the scholarly needs of working executives/ managers/ faculty members/ researchers.
The total fees for the entire programme is Rs. 4,90,000/- payable in three installments

Rural Management Courses at IRMA

Rural Management department at IRMA (Institute of Rural Management), Anand, has invited applications for admission to the following courses, for which an entrance test will be conducted on November 8.

•Postgraduate programme in rural management: A two-year residential course equivalent to Masters.

Eligibility: graduate in any discipline with 50 per cent marks.

The total course fee including the tuition fee is about Rs.3 lakh. Scholarships are available for deserving students. Campus placements will be arranged after successful completion of the programme.

•Fellow programme in rural management: It is a doctoral residential programme of minimum three-year duration.

Eligibility: Postgraduation in any discipline or a four-year professional degree with one-year work experience or a five-year professional degree. Every FPRM participant receives a gross fellowship of Rs.10,000 per month and a contingency grant of Rs.20,000 per year for four years. Major activities of the hotels are:
Catering: The catering department headed by F&B Manager provides food to he guests. The Manager strategies and controls the different works of this department. The Manager and Asst. Managers decide the price of the menu items; ensure consistent quality food preparation and service. The Executive Chef is in-charge of the operation of the kitchen while the Restaurant and Food Managers meet with the sales representatives of the restaurant suppliers to place orders to replenish stocks of tableware, linens and cooking utensils etc.
The catering section consists of culinary section, the steward section and the food service section. The culinary section plays a vital role in hotel and the steward is at the head of the restaurant arrangements. Food and beverage services workers deal with the customers in all kinds of dinning establishments while the waiters and waitresses take care of customer orders and serve food.
Housekeeping department: A hotel is also maintained just like a house but on a large scale and with a professional touch. The housekeeping department is responsible for the cleanliness and other types of maintenance in the rooms, lobby, lounges, parks, etc. The department is headed by the Executive Housekeeper who ensures that guest rooms, banquet rooms are tidy and well maintained. Shift duties are assigned in this section especially because of the nature of the work that goes on round the clock. There are floor Supervisors in-charge of rooms on a floor who instruct and direct the room boys, linen maids and sweepers etc.
Front Office Department: people of this department are the first ones to welcome the guests in the hotel premises. The Front Office Manager who is the in-charge of this section supervises the reservations and room assignment scenario while the reservations etc. are done by the front desk staff. Reservation clerk, bellboy, receptionist, information clerk are some of the personnel of this section. A courteous and pleasing dealing of the customer is their main task.
A large chunk of employees is easily absorbed in the hotels because of the magnitude and diversification of the activities performed. This field is rapidly growing in our country and emerging as a potential employer offering multi-faceted employment opportunities.
Requirements for a career in hotels: A good personality, a desire of meeting and attending people, confidence and an extrovert attitude are the most desired requirements for this field. A lot of hard work is expected because working in a hotel is never an eight-hour job and goes way beyond.
Hotel management, the art and technique of managing the hotels is today’s one of the most sought after careers in our country. Hotel management ensures a cosy and glamorous job because of the luxurious and automated office system providing the best job conditions.
There are four areas in which training is imparted. Front Office, Housekeeping, Food and Beverage and Kitchen. Career in health care

Recession or not, health care is a priority for people, say those in the field. Even before the recession, the demand supply gap where healthcare professionals was concerned was large. Again, because health insurance, a key driver of healthcare sector had made inroads, it gave affordability to people. And health insurance is poised to grow by 55 per cent.
India’s healthcare is said to be worth 41 billion dollars. In terms of beds per 1000 people, India’s figures are 0.86; while China stands at 2.2, Brazil at 2.6 and USA 3.2. These figures should sum up the general picture of healthcare in India.
To reach 2 beds per 1,000 population, India has to add 17.5 lakh beds. The investment required will be 86 billion dollars. Right now, more than four million people are employed in healthcare, say experts.
Management in healthcare is a recent phenomenon. There is a need for management talent in healthcare, both medical and non-medical healthcare professionals. Healthcare which was metro-centric is now also moving to Tier II cities. So there is a bigger need for healthcare talent too.
